Welcome to the Suffolk Aviation Heritage Museum

Our museum is dedicated to the history of flight in the Ipswich and Suffolk areas. Our small staff of volunteers have extensive knowledge of local aviation history. With many years of experience in preserving, displaying and presenting the history of local flight to the public.

How to find us...

To find our museum located near Martlesham Heath, Ipswich, begin by heading along Foxhall Road, which runs between the Ipswich Speedway Stadium and the Foxhall Recycling Centre. As you drive, keep an eye out for the three prominently visible communication towers and the associated buildings. Once level with the three towers, look for our signs to locate the entrance leading to the museum. If you need further assistance, use the” What Three Words” coordinates provided below.

The museum is split over two building, the first holds:
  • Our display on the “History of Flight in Suffolk”. A collection of models, pictures and displays of the history of flight and its relationship to the Suffolk area.
  • The “Local Cold War History” display area.
  • Along with our regularly updated displays in the main exhibition space.
  • We also can offer hot and cold drinks along with various snacks in our comfortable tea room, with inside and outside seating.

The second building is our display space for: -
  • Edith Maud Cook. An early pioneer of Parachuting and Flight, born in Ipswich.
  • Ipswich Airport Photograph Collection. A collection of photographs detailing the history of the now close Ipswich Airport.
  • Falklands War Exhibition Room. Models and artifacts from the Falklands Conflict.
  • The Autovon Site. A look at the history of this site at which the museum is now based.
  • Our Aircraft Display Area has our partially restored Hawker Hunter, along with our  Vampire. It also holds some aircraft of significant local history. This section also holds our historically significant aircraft engine display from the WWII period through to the modern times.
